A historic event linked to the month of Tevet

In 1987, during the month of Tevet, the U.S. federal court issued a historic ruling in favor of the Rebbe and his disciples, recognizing their ownership of the priceless library of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, the sixth Rebbe of Chabad Lubavitch.

The central question was who rightfully inherited this extraordinary legacy: the biological descendants or the community of his disciples? The judge clarified a fundamental principle: a Rebbe is not just an individual but a collective figure, inseparably connected to his followers, the Chassidim. The ruling established that the Rebbe and his disciples are one entity, and the library belongs to both equally.

In the same month that marks this important anniversary, the Merkos School in Milan is organizing a special event: the Jewish Book Fair, which will also feature the inauguration of the new school library.
