This morning, an act of antisemitic vandalism targeted the Adat Israel Synagogue in Melbourne, Australia. Two masked individuals entered the sacred site at 4:30 a.m., breaking a window, pouring gasoline, and setting the building on fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the material damage is significant. Two worshippers present for morning study promptly alerted emergency services, preventing even greater harm.
The President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog, expressed solidarity with the local Jewish community in an official statement:
“I was moved to hear how the entire community stands united and strong in the face of this terrible attack and the wave of antisemitism it is experiencing.”
Herzog also called on global leaders to firmly condemn this attack and oppose the growing threat of anti-Jewish racism.
The arson at the Melbourne synagogue serves as a painful reminder of the persistence of antisemitic hatred and the need to remain vigilant and united as a global community.
